Not to go on too much of a tangent here, but I feel like you’re using very narrow definitions of hipsters and how artists dress.
I know quite a few artists and I wouldn’t say that any of them have a particular style of dress.
As far as the hipsters go, I know of several different clothing styles that would be sneered at by many and dubbed “hipster,” but I don’t think that the clothing style of the hipster subculture represents the entirety of what embodies the ideal hipster.
As for your question about whether or not I’m a hipster, I wouldn’t necessarily say that I am one. The only time I actually identify as a hipster is in a sarcastic, self-deprecating way.
I am not a visual artist and would never claim to be.
I do play the saxophone and write.
I don’t think I would call myself an artist, but I don’t think I would have to be an artist to be a hipster either.
